My Crazy Life... Lately
So it's been too long since I've popped in to write anything on here- mostly just posting music and live show dates (can you tell I've been busy??) Soo I figured it was time for a good update on my life currently, as well as a reflection on what's been happening recently.
I'll start by saying this: when I began navigating this decision to seriously pursue music (approximately 7 months ago now), I had NO idea: a) how increasingly evident it would become that this is exactly what I am meant to do & b) how quickly I would gain momentum and support along the way.
Music has quickly become my 2nd "full time job" and I'm thrilled. Here's what a week in my life these days looks like: commute to and from High Point 5 days a week for the 8:30-5:30 corporate grind. Musically: Mon- open mic night Tues/Wed/Thurs- gig, collaboration with other musicians, writing, or practicing music Fri & Sat- gig nights. Sunday- collaborate/play music (AND REST).
I literally DO NOT STOP. And I also don't sleep a whole lot either... but honestly I've never felt more alive, excited, driven and encouraged to push harder.
On that note I also have to take a moment to point out how incredibly thankful I am for the people I've been surrounded with and the faith, encouragement and support they've offered me. These are the owners/managers of the places I play who keep calling me back and booking me, the patrons who have started coming religiously when they know I'll be there & booking me for private events, and the family and friends who I can count on (but never expect) to show up every. single. time. YOU are the reason I keep going & don't lose steam!!
I was actually reflecting on these things this past weekend while making a bank run to deposit my week's worth of tips (straight into my savings account!) I was adding up the money I had made that week, and it caused me to remember some very specific conversations with new "fans" from my Friday night gig. They truly believe in me, my voice, and what I'm doing and have begun coming out every time I play at their local spot & hiring me for private events. The owner has expressed how much she believes in me and has begun pre-booking me out based on MY schedule because she "wants to say she had me first before I get big" haha :) I literally started crying at that point, when I thought about how much support and positive feedback I've been given. I realize I've been working so hard, but to really see the results of that coming together is incredible validation.
The point to all of this is really to share my mantra (as seen on my shirt in the picture at the top) "do what you LOVE." I don't know how else to stress this to you but it's so important to me that you realize- if you have that one thing that you just KNOW you are good at, or that you have a real passion for- do not let anything or anyone stop you, including yourself! If you do what you love and you're willing to put forth the energy & passion, it's bound to be a success. If you don't have that blaring passion yet... that's OK too!! Explore everything, talk to people, put yourself out there, find out what you like and don't like and start figuring it out!! Lastly- I believe in you, even if you don't yet. I seriously believe in anyone who has taken the time to read this through til the end. You're all capable of so, so very much & more. I hope you have found some sort of small seed of inspiration in my words. Make today great!!
